Venette Ovilde & Myriam Janvier
Crimes: Child Abuse, Manslaughter
Religion can do bizarre things to people’s heads. I’m not talking about the shape of the heads, but rather the content.
Friends and roommates of Irvington, New Jersey, USA, got themselves involved in a whackadoo cult led by Haitian “prophet” Emanyel Rezireksyon Kris. They called their religion “Walking with Christ”, and it involved daily prayer sessions and wearing white robes and head coverings. There was more to it, of course. Their homes were covered in white sheets tacked to the walls, floors and ceilings — white being the colour of purity and austerity. They had no beds, couches or electricity because, I guess, Jesus wasn’t into being comfortable.
Emanyel Rezireksyon Kris, a baker by trade, held prayer sessions at the apartment of Venette Ovilde and Myriam Janvier. He insisted that his followers keep to a strict diet and fast several times a week. He was also dead set against real medical treatment.
Venette Ovilde was so smitten with Emanyel Rezireksyon Kris that she changed her name to Krisla Rezireksyon Kris. She also changed her children’s surnames to Rezireksyon Kris.
Now I don’t give a flying flip about what adults undergo in a cult/religion, so long as they are of sound mind and body, and fully consenting. If they want to survive on a diet of worms, fine. If they want to pray 16 hours a day, fine. If they want to walk across burning coals, fine. But when they bring vulnerable children into the mix, I give a huge gawd damn about it.
Venette Ovilde brought her 3 young ones into the cult. Christina, Christiana and Solomon had no choice. Unfortunately for the children, “Walking with Christ” was very child-unfriendly.Venette Ovilde and Myriam Janvier, being dutiful, devoted followers, had no problem with treating those precious children as decreed by Emanyel Rezireksyon Kris. It wasn’t just a matter of making them wear white and living without electricity. It was frankly a matter of horrific abuse.
Those two f*ckturdian hellbitches decided to “home school” the children. They also withheld food, even as the children cried from hunger. They brutally assaulted all 3 little ones with open hands, a cord, a stick or a block of wood. They assaulted them badly enough to break bones. And there’s more.
The monstrous women tied those helpless children to a radiator in a dark pantry, with a bucket to use as a toilet. They forced them to kneel on SALT with heavy items balanced on their heads. They left them home alone for long periods of time. They made them sleep on the floor. And, of course, they refused to get the children medical treatment, even for the broken bones.
Those children became so brittle-boned and feeble that they eventually couldn’t walk any more. Rather ironic they belonged to “Walking with Christ”.
And being all religious and shit, Venette Ovilde and Myriam Janvier made the children pray 4 times a day.
You’d think that the authorities would’ve gotten involved. Well, it seems they were. There were allegations of serious abuse. New Jersey’s Division of Youth and Family Services “investigated”, but decided to close the case in 2008 after receiving 4 separate complaints over 2 years. In each instance, allegations of physical abuse and neglect were ruled unfounded.
I honestly don’t know how DYFS “investigated” the case. Starving, scarred and scared children didn’t alarm them? Apparently, disgustingly not.In May 2011, 8-year-old Christiana’s body had gone through enough abuse. On May 22, she lay in her bed and died. The poor baby had an untreated broken femur and severe malnutrition.
Her mother, eschewing medical care, had treated the broken thighbone with gasoline, cornmeal and salt on the festering wound. I cannot imagine what excruciating pain little Christiana had felt.
Venette Ovilde also let roaches bite that beautiful girl. I suspect that was part of her non-medical approach to treatment. Probably she would’ve used leaches had she had any.
Venette Ovilde and Myriam Janvier responded to Christiana’s death, not by calling 911, but by gathering the other children and praying over the body for over an hour. Big shock — Christiana didn’t recover from dying. She was no Lazarus.
Venette Ovilde eventually went outside to a pay phone and called 911 to report that her child couldn’t breathe.
When first responders arrived, they found one dead child, and two frail children sporting broken bones. One child had a broken arm and foot, and the other had a broken finger. Those poor kids were 7 and 6 years old.
Venette Ovilde was, of course, taken in for questioning. She painted little Christiana’s life as perfectly fine, except for the leg. Her explanation for the broken leg was a fall in the bathtub.
“I’m not gonna say she was walking a hundred percent,” she said in a taped interview with detectives. “I’m not gonna say that, but she was walking fine.”
It wasn’t until the next day, she said, that Christiana’s leg was swollen, so she applied her salt/cornmeal compress to the leg and wrapped it up in bandages.
“You could say there were times she was crying,” admitted Venette Ovilde. By the next day, Christiana was “fine, laughing, giggling” before she lay down for a nap and died.
I think it’s safe to say that the monstrous mother was lying to detectives — lying a lot. Mendacity was oozing from her pores.
Venette Ovilde denied beating her children, and said she only “tapped” them using her hands. She denied tying her children to the radiator, even though there were ropes tied to the radiator. She denied starving her malnourished children, and insisted they ate vegetables, bread and beans during the week, and fasted with soup on the weekends. Venette Ovilde also insisted she’d provided “tender loving care” to Christiana.
Lies, all lies.
And this I don’t get: if she were such a true believer in her prophet, Emanyel Rezireksyon Kris, enough to change her name to his, why would she deny raising her children as per his guidance? She totally lied, so was that because she starved and brutalized her children without her church’s guidance, or because she knew it was totally and completely IMMORAL and WRONG? Then again, it’s totally possible that Emanyel Rezireksyon Kris instructed her to lie.
I really, really hope the authorities are looking closely at the activities of the “Walking with Christ” group and making sure no children are being harmed.
Both Venette Ovilde and Myriam Janvier were arrested. Venette Ovilde had her trial first.
After a 4-week trial in March 2016, Venette Ovilde/Krisla Rezireksyon Kris, 34, was acquitted of murder. However, she was convicted of aggravated manslaughter, 2 counts of aggravated assault, and 15 counts of endangering the welfare of the 2 surviving children.
At her sentencing, the hellbitch pled for mercy. “From the time my children were born I became a devoted single mother,” she told the court. “My children are everything to me and I love them very much. I was focused on working towards providing a good life for them.” Riiight.
The judge countered with an impact statement from the surviving daughter. The girl said she hopes her “birth mother” (ouch) will never see the light of dy. Amen!
Venette Ovilde/Krisla Rezireksyon Kris was sentenced to a total of 45 years in prison.
Myriam Janvier, as far as I can ascertain, is still awaiting trial. There is expected to be a Miranda hearing to determine whether statements she made to the police will be admissible in court. I shall try to keep readers informed. Reminders are always welcome.
I do not know if Myriam Janvier participated in beating the children or tying them up. What I do know is she was present when the children were battered and starved. If she had spoken the truth to DYFS, the outcome would probably have been much, much happier for those poor kids, and especially for Christiana. That fact alone makes her a candidate for hell, IMO.
The surviving children were placed into foster care, bless their hearts. I hope and pray that they now have a safe, loving, nourishing, enriching environment where they can grow up to be happy, productive people.
