Crimes: Elder abuse, Child abuse

This is wrong, so very, very wrong. On May 31, 2012, Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a concerned call from an employee of a solar-panel company. The man, Chris Van Raalte, had gone to a house in Sun City West, Arizona for a scheduled appointment and the smell was so horrible outside that he figured somebody had died inside the residence.

When the deputies entered the house they discovered an 87-year-old man handcuffed to a bed in a house full of trash and animal feces. That’s right, he was handcuffed to the bed.

The unfortunate old man, Roy Rothlisberg, was “wearing a diaper that appeared not to have been changed for a very long time,” said the Sheriff’s Office. That was all he was wearing. A soiled diaper. Um, ewwww.

The poor old gentleman, besides being handcuffed, was also tied down to the bed with soft restraints. Somebody really made sure he wasn’t getting up. He was just left there unable to move, festering in his own feces.

As well, the prisoner (because that’s what he was) was “very thin and malnourished”. He desperately needed rescuing. Thank goodness Chris Van Raalte called it in! Probably saved his life.

Roy Rothlisberg was sharing the disgustingly filthy house with 4 dogs and 9 cats — the contributors to the piles of poop and pools of piss. The deputies also discovered he lived with his niece/caregiver Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg and her 14-year-old daughter.

Maybe caregiver isn’t quite the right title for Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg. Maybe jail keeper, or dungeon master would be more appropriate.

As the deputies were arranging for the poor old man to be taken to hospital, 56-year-old Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg herself showed up at 12:30 p.m. She told the deputies that she’d left her Uncle Roy in bed, all snug and secure and tied up, since the night before. She explained she restrained him to the bed because “he gets out of bed and falls a lot.”

Aaahhhh, it was out of concern and loving kindness that Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg handcuffed and tied her uncle up. Riiiight.

The nasty bitch also said she had NO IDEA it was against the law to tie someone to a bed. She said it was her mother’s idea and her mother was a nurse so that made it all right. (Wow, I’m sure glad her mom is retired from nursing if that’s true.)

The dungeon master, I mean Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg, went on to explain to the deputies that when she left the house that morning she’d decided to leave Uncle Roy handcuffed because “he wasn’t awake yet”. How considerate of her! He needed his sleep you know, being old, weak and starving.

She probably didn’t change his poop-filled diaper or his pissy sheets either because “he wasn’t awake yet”. I doubt she even bothered to leave him food or drink because “he wasn’t awake yet”. It doesn’t sound like her prisoner/uncle got much nourishment at all for a very long time.

The deputies weren’t happy. By her own timeline, Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg had left her uncle cuffed for over 15 hours!

The deputies had even more issues with this nasty bitch. They wanted to know about all the garbage and the animal feces throughout the house. See, they weren’t too happy that the old man and the 14-year-old girl were forced to live in the midst of a putrid dung pile.

Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg explained to the deputies that she just didn’t have the time to clean the house. She was much, much too busy driving her mother around. Yeah, that can be so exhausting.

I myself have 4 dogs and if one of them has an “accident” in the house it smells! I can’t imagine letting the piss and poop from 4 dogs and 9 cats pile up over days, weeks, months!

The fumes of the ammonia must have been nearly lethal, especially since Chris Van Raalte noticed the smell from outside the house.

And the fumes must have been even worse considering the temperatures in the house were higher than 90 degrees Fahrenheit (over 32 degrees Celsius)!

I should clarify that not all the rooms in that revoltingly filthy residence were that hot. The bedroom belonging to Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg had air-conditioning.

Imagine that! The hellbitch didn’t like the heat but it was good enough for her own daughter and her elderly uncle.

Uncle Roy was taken to hospital for medical care. Child Protective Services took custody of the 14-year-old girl.

Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg was booked into jail on elder abuse and child abuse charges. In October 2012 she pled guilty to only the vulnerable-adult abuse charge.

See, I just don’t get why some charges get dropped just because the defendant pleads guilty to others. Especially when there’s plenty of evidence to support the dropped charges at trial. I just don’t get it.

Anyway, Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg pled guilty to abusing her poor old uncle and on October 15, 2012 was sentenced to 3 whole years of probation with mental-health terms. Ooooohhhh, harsh!

She is also prohibited from working as a “caregiver” from now on.

I am relieved that Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg is banned from “caring” for anyone else ever again. Her standard of care bordered on torture — OK, it crossed the border and traveled deep into torture territory.

I am not relieved that Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg is NOT banned from owning animals. I am not relieved that Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg got only probation after imprisoning, starving and neglecting a helpless 87-year-old man.

If Chris Van Raalte hadn’t phoned the authorities, Roy Rothlisberg could easily have starved to death in his feces-covered bed. Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg is just lucky she wasn’t guilty of causing her uncle’s death.

She is also lucky her penalty is so paltry. Probation. That is so wrong, so very, very wrong.

Rot in hell, Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg, you selfish, sadistic cow.

Wtf no jail time. Its amazing someone thats caught with crack cocaine gets 20yrs (Not that i agree with taking crack, just making a point) And yet this cunt gets away with handcuffing a pensioner to his bed in a pissed & Shitted up diaper, amongst piles of dog and cat shit & Piss, thats so wrong. Her room had air conditioning in it, and i bet it was spotless without any mess. And she was driving her mother about, to where, fucking britain. Anyway im absolutely disgusted, this turd should be locked up. And by the way cleo, im the original dungeon master lol.

They usually allow people to plead out and drop the other charges because it saves the courts the expense of a trial. Also, many judges would simply sentence her concurrently anyhow, so there wouldn’t be any additional time involved with the additional charges.

Which all in all is a sorry state for our justice system to be in…

Flyingleadchange, i guess it always boils down to money doesn’t it. Shows what a sad justice system we all have, not just america, but uk especially. You would think that with all the money our goverment’s waste every year, that a few more million would be spent on justice, show’s you what their priorities are, its very sad but thats how it is. I’d love to see some of these politicians, live in the real world for a while, then maybe they would understand where they are going wrong, but thats not gonna happen.

      • FlyingLeadChange says:

The ironic part is, if they factored in the economic cost of crime, it would be saving society money in the long run to spend the extra money and incapacitate the criminals for greater periods of time, deterring others in the process.

Your absolutely right flyingleadchange, but the politicians don.t think logically, thats why i’d love to see a few of them live in the real world for a few months, because i can guarantee that it would be a definate eye opener for them. Instead of wasting money on crap initiatives, they should invest the money into tackling why certain crimes happen, then maybe they could prevent the criminal from committing the crime in the 1st place. But unfortunately the politicians don.t live in the real world. I also think that they need to start giving big sentence’s out to paedaphiles, and the people that commit heinous acts. Because a crack addict caught buying crack, could end up getting 20-30yrs, yet a paedaphile can walk out of court with a sentence of probation or a petty few months locked up, that’s wrong is that.

This bitch is probably like one of those hoarders you see on TV with houses full of trash and animal poop. But that is NO excuse to starve her uncle and to tie him up and abandon him without food and water for hours. And that is NO excuse to have her daughter grow up and live in that filth. Too bad that old man suffered for so long before he was rescued. The bitch seriously needs therapy and she should have been sent to prison to teach her she can’t treat anyone like that.

  4. bulldoggy says:

Hooray for Chris Van Raalte! How many neighbours ignored the smell and the dogs barking and for how long? And how many teachers didn’t notice the daughter was living in such distressful circumstances and for how long? We should all get as involved as Chris Van Raalte in case someone is in danger.

  5. bengalpuss says:

Bulldoggy, your right again (Mark your calendar) Why didn.t the teachers that taught that young girl, called to the home address, when she stopped coming to school. They should’ve rang the police, and asked them to do a welfare check, or called to the girls home, to find out if she was ok. If chris van raalte noticed a bad smell, how come nobody else could. Im keeping my fingers cropped that this Witch, gets a decent sentence in jail.

  6. bengalpuss says:

Meant to say “Crossed” Not “Cropped” Dumb arse i am lol.

  7. moodymagic says:
