Crimes: Kidnapping, Murder

Little Maddox Lawrence of Syracuse, New York, USA, was a gutsy little fighter. She’d managed to battle and survive a rare form of eye cancer and she wasn’t even 2 years old. Enduring chemotherapy makes for a tough existence, and babies can’t understand that it’s for their own good. Still, little Maddox beat the odds and won the battle all the way to remission.

As joyous as the outcome must have been, there’s no denying that, in the USA, cancer treatment comes at a great cost to a family. There are the medical bills — huge medical bills — but there is also a great deal of strain on relationships. So much revolves around the sick person every day, and it’s hard to make time for regular life stuff. I know, because my own father died relatively young of pancreatic cancer. I’m grateful that my mom and I didn’t have to cope with outrageous medical costs because we’re Canadian, and I feel for Americans dealing with such crippling debt as well as sickness.

The parents of little Maddox, Ryan and Morgan Lawrence, had a tough time of it, working at low paying jobs and caring for their very sick baby girl. Still, it must’ve been worth it all when Maddox pulled through victoriously. They had a new lease on life, free of hospitals and cancer treatments. They could live as a regular family again, albeit one with a big financial burden.

I’d expect that the entire family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, were rejoicing at the outcome, except I’d be wrong. There was somebody not celebrating, and that was Ryan Lawrence.

I don’t know what his issue was. I doubt anyone would or could understand it. He’d acted like such a loving father, taking his little girl with him every morning when he made deliveries to coffee shops in Syracuse. He’d held her wee hand as she went through chemo treatments. Everyone thought he was devoted to baby Maddox. They were all wrong.

On February 19, 2016, Ryan Lawrence had devised a plan of pure, undiluted evil. But it wasn’t enough to have a plan — he wanted to ensure his plan would work. And so, Ryan Lawrence did a trial run. It was rational thinking coming out of a sick, twisted mind.

That morning, Ryan Lawrence dropped off his wife at her place of work, and then drove 21-month-old Maddox to a remote location near Tinker Falls. They’d been there before, and Maddox loved the area.

maddoxphoto4jpg-fc5e79b78c1f5b31Ryan Lawrence took his baby girl into the woods. He built a fire pit. Maybe he started a fire. Afterward, he picked up his wife from work and drove home, certain in his mind that his plan would be successful.

On February 20, 2016, Ryan Lawrence again dropped off his wife at her place of work. Once again he took baby Maddox to that spot near Tinker Falls. This time, though, he took along a wooden baseball bat. I hope and pray little Maddox didn’t see what her daddy was doing. I hope and pray her back was turned when Ryan Lawrence swung that back and bashed her in the head.

That’s right, this monstrous hellbeast took his trusting, helpless baby girl into the woods and bashed the life out of her. He then lit the fire in the fire pit and tossed her body and the murder weapon into the flames.

After a few hours, maybe because the wee body wasn’t consumed by the fire, Ryan Lawrence drove it to Onondaga County, tied it to a cinder block and sank it in a creek.

How the hell a parent could do that to his baby, I can’t understand. RIP, baby Maddox.

At that point, all that was left was for Ryan Lawrence to disappear. He was prepared. He drove the car to the place his wife worked, left the keys and a note inside it, and left.

Morgan Lawrence finished work only to find the car, but no husband, no baby. She saw the cryptic note that hinted that Ryan Lawrence might hurt himself or Maddox. She immediately contacted police and an Amber Alert was issued.

On February 21, 2016, Morgan Lawrence appeared at a press conference and tearfully begged her husband to return their baby.

“Ryan please, just please call,” she pleaded. “We just want to know that the both of you are safe. The whole family loves you. The whole family wants you both home. We just want to know you’re in a good place.”

The next day, Ryan Lawrence was spotted by a bystander. He was wearing a hat, a wig and sunglasses to disguise himself, but obviously it wasn’t enough. He was nabbed by Syracuse police and taken into custody.

At first the evil bastard wouldn’t cooperate with the police. He made up a couple of tall tales about where little Maddox was. The police pressed him during a marathon interrogation, hoping against hope that they’d find the baby alive somewhere. Finally, Ryan Lawrence confessed to the murder and where the body was.

New York State Police divers recovered the tiny, burned and battered body from the creek on February 23, 2016. The baby killer was arrested on a charge of 2nd-degree murder that was later upgraded to 1st-degree murder.

Ryan Lawrence’s attorney, naturally, argued that his client had been suffering from “extreme emotional disturbance” when he killed Maddox, and should be tried for manslaughter. That argument didn’t fly.

In August 2016, the attorney tried to get his client’s confession thrown out because he was coerced and denied a lawyer. The court ruled that because the police were in a panic trying to find the missing toddler, that made the “emergency doctrine” applicable. The right to a lawyer “should not be a barrier to locate a small child,” ruled the judge. His arrest was legal, he was read his Constitutional warnings, and himself had turned away a lawyer who’d shown up to represent him. The confession stood.

In September 2016, Ryan Lawrence, 25, pled guilty to 1st-degree murder in Syracuse City Court. On November 16, 2016, he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

“It is with all of my heart that I convey my sincerest apology to everyone for taking Maddox from her family and everyone who loved her,” Ryan Lawrence told the court. “I am also utterly sorry for denying Maddox a chance at life.”

So why did the evil bastard do it? Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick had a suggestion.

“His statements [to police] allude to almost a sense of jealousy about the attention that this child was getting as opposed to the attention he was getting,” said DA Fitzpatrick.

Maybe Ryan Lawrence was jealous. Maybe he was fed up. Maybe he’d begun to hate his baby for causing a major disruption to his life. Only he knows, and if he doesn’t, he’ll have many, many years behind bars to think about it.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those who truly loved baby Maddox. She did indeed deserve the chance at life she’d fought so hard for.

Long may Ryan Lawrence suffer in prison.

What the hell is wrong with people nowadays? Why are these millenial parents murdering their children in cold blood? Not a week goes by that I don’t hear or read about some parent who has assaulted, abused or murdered their child. What is this world coming to? Here in my state, West Virginia, a 20-something guy decided he was gonna take his girlfriends 9 month old baby girl into their basement, and rape her. Yep. That’s what he did while her mother and siblings were upstairs sleeping. Her older brother went down in the basement and found his baby sister in a pile of clothes on the floor, in the dark, bleeding and dying. She had been raped so violently that she eventually died from her injuries. The EMS and police that responded to this call, they have had to go to therapy and counseling for the horrific scene they found, and because of the condition this shitbag left her in. He apparently strangled her, trying to stop her from screaming and crying. I don’t even want to think about what was going through this baby’s mind, hoping her mother would come save her from this mean man. She ended up being brain dead and was on a ventilator. If she survived, she would’ve lived as a vegetable, more than likely, so it was a blessing that she passed away. This didn’t have to happen. They had to put this asshole in protective custody in the jail he was taken to. I don’t know why, he doesn’t deserve protection, but baby Makayla did! I hope he never sees the light of day. Just like this guy. Jealous of your child who fought hard and beat cancer? Are you kidding me? Typical millenial who thinks they deserve all the attention and can’t stand it when people pay attention to anyone but them! This is the future of the USA. Being ran by entitled millennials who can’t stand it when people don’t think like them. I hope I am dead and gone by the time that happens. Millenials like this Ryan guy, and like the guy who violently raped murdered the 9 month old here in my state, running the country scares me more than any Presidential candidates!

filicide has been around since we’ve been reproducing. animals do it as well. yeah it’s messed up and yeah it’s sad, but millennials in no way invented this. and i don’t think they’re doing it more than previous generations, but this is the age of technology, so you’re hearing a lot more of it

This poor angel, it’s so sad. I think he raped her and that’s why he used fire on her remains. I know that’s speculation but it makes more sense than he was just jealous.
