Raghunandan Yandamuri
Crimes: Kidnapping, Murder

Raghunandan Yandamuri of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, was a loser with a gambling debt. He had moved to the US from India in hopes of a better life, but instead found himself in the hole to the tune of $20,000. Oh, dear. What’s a loser to do?

Raghunandan Yandamuri could have done the right thing. He could have worked extra jobs to pay off his debt. He could have filed for bankruptcy. He could have given up gambling. But no, the lazy loser Raghunandan Yandamuri didn’t want to do the right thing. He especially didn’t want to give up gambling. And so he turned his efforts to planning something truly, horrifically evil — something that would allow him to pay off his debt to the casino AND have plenty more money with which to gamble.

In October 2012, Raghunandan Yandamuri had a plan. He knew a young professional couple who lived in the Marquis Apartments in Upper Merion. They had a baby girl they loved dearly. In fact, they loved baby Saanvi so much they would pay anything to get her back if she should disappear. Raghunandan Yandamuri had decided to make little Saanvi disappear.

It wasn’t too hard, really. Baby Saanvi was babysat by her grandma, Satyavathi Venna. Raghunandan Yandamuri was known to the family and had been in their apartment before. All he had to do was convince the grandma to let him in and he had it made!

There was, however, the problem that Satyavathi Venna would be able to identify him. Raghunandan Yandamuri came up with the most obvious and most evil solution — to kill her. Then he could nab the baby and hold her for ransom.

Just what kind of monster would even consider doing what Raghunandan Yandamuri was about to do? A heartless, soulless, cold-blooded one, I guess, totally lacking in a conscience or a scrap of humanity.

victimsOn October 22, 2012, armed with a knife, Raghunandan Yandamuri carried out his plan. He murdered Satyavathi Venna, 61, and grabbed the baby. He left a ransom note in the apartment demanding $50,000 for Saanvi’s life.

Something went really wrong with Raghunandan Yandamuri’s fiendish plot. Maybe the baby began to cry and scream. Maybe she was going to attract too much attention for the hellbeast to make off with her. Whatever his reason, he suffocated little Saanvi. She was only 10 months old.

Raghunandan Yandamuri hid the tiny body in the sauna of the Marquis Apartments.

Raghunandan Yandamuri had one scheme to get money, and the loser thoroughly messed it up. He’d planned only on one murder and wound up committing two. This stupid, worthless POS sacrificed the lives of two loved, loving and completely innocent individuals — all for nothing.

Saanvi’s father, Shiva Venna, left work early because a concerned neighbour called. When he returned home, he found his beloved mother brutally murdered and his beautiful baby girl missing. I cannot imagine the horror that poor man went through.

When police arrived, they met with the distraught man who provided them with the ransom note. As it turned out, Raghunandan Yandamuri was such a stupid loser he addressed the baby’s parents by their nicknames. Very few people were familiar with those nicknames. That stupid mistake narrowed down the list of suspects considerably, and Raghunandan Yandamuri was on that list!

Saanvi VennaThe police focused most of their efforts on finding the baby. They even drained the pool at the apartment complex. They held a press conference where Shiva Venna begged for the safe return of his daughter.

On October 25th and 26th, 2012, after several hours of interrogation, Raghunandan Yandamuri admitted to murdering the woman and the baby. He also told the police where they could find the body of poor little Saanvi.

Raghunandan Yandamuri was arrested and charged with murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary and abuse of a corpse. He was facing the death penalty.

The trial began in August 2014 and went on for a month and a half. Raghunandan Yandamuri had decided to act as his own lawyer, the dumbass. His defense was that two white strangers, Matt and Josh, forced him at gunpoint to get them into the Venna apartment where Matt and Josh killed Satyavathi Venna and kidnapped Saanvi Venna.

“This is a very terrible thing,” Raghunandan Yandamuri had told the jury. “Whoever did it, they should be given very big punishment.”

The prosecutor responded to his claims, “There’s simply no evidence of anybody forcing him to do any of this.”

On October 9, 2014, Raghunandan Yandamuri, 28, was found guilty of 1st-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary and abuse of a corpse. Judge Steven O-Neill imposed 2 death sentences for the murder and kidnapping, and for the other charges he imposed a sentence of 31 to 62 years in prison.

In the year since his conviction, Raghunandan Yandamuri has argued that the photos of the victims, his treatment by police, ineffective counsel, and the constitutionality of the death penalty are grounds for a new trial or the reversal of the death sentence.

The prosecutors are confident that Raghunandan Yandamuri will not succeed in his appeal. I sure as hell hope they’re right.

Because it is a death penalty case, it will automatically go to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for review. In other words, it will take a long, long time for Raghunandan Yandamuri’s ultimate fate to be decided. Still, whether he’s actually executed or not, this evil bastard will be spending the rest of his life in prison.

RIP, Satayrathi and Saanvi Venna. I extend my condolences to their family and friends who mourn their loss.

To Raghunandan Yandamuri I wish endless years of misery. He doesn’t deserve anything better than that.

Omg, that little baby was so cute and this cunt murdered her and her grandmother. I can’t even imagine that poor son who found his mom murdered and his daughter missing. Its a shame that it’ll take years to execute this lowlife murderous bastard, and he admitted he’d done the murder and led the cops to the babies body, he then pleads not guilty? Talk cant thick as pig shit, no wonder he was caught rapid, stupid idiot. May he rot.

How could he find himself in the hole becauase of a debt of $20,000. 11 years ago I found myself in debt of about $50,000, not because of gambling but unemployment.
I did not kidnap nor steal. I found a job and worked overtime and for the next 3 years lived a simple life while paying off my debts.
It is interesting too that my salaries were way lower than Yandamuris salary.
How on earth did this man think an infant would survive alone on a floor in a cellar? I have been babysitting a lot throughout the years and you need to give an infant 110% of your time.
This case is so tragic that 4 years later I cannot get it off my mind.

I feel so bad for this family. Coming home to something like that it would be just well almost unbearable at first and then something that even with time you would never, ever fully recover from. It’s just so hard to comprehend how some people can be so evil.

This shit-for-brains criminal mastermind deserves the death penalty. He should’ve killed himself instead of killing innocents. Doesn’t deserve to live, in my opinion.
