Osvaldo Rivera

Crimes: Murder, attempted murder, sexual assault

Osvaldo Rivera of Camden, New Jersey, is a truly evil man, and thankfully a jury convicted him of his truly evil deeds.

In September 2012, Rivera broke into a home while the residents were sleeping. The mother of the family was in hospital recovering from surgery, and her four children were home alone. The oldest child, a 14-year-old girl, had been left in charge. There was no adult present to protect them from the monster who crept in that night.

Osvaldo Rivera attacked and raped a 12-year-old girl. She screamed for help when the hellbeast stabbed her and slashed her throat. Incredibly, her 6-year-old brother, Dominick, came to her rescue.

That awesomely brave little boy succeeded in distracting the vicious attacker enough so that his sister could escape from the house and summon help.

The girl, bleeding from her wounds, ran to a neighbour’s house a few doors down. She told the neighbour, “Poppy raped me.”

The girl knew the identity of her rapist. She’d seen him before. It was Osvaldo Rivera, who hung around the area and went by the nickname Popeye.

Police were called, and the victim managed to tell them how “Poppy” had raped her. The girl was transported to Cooper University Hospital for surgery.

DominickDominick, that amazingly brave little boy, tragically paid the ultimate so that his sister might live. Police found his body in the home with multiple stab wounds. His throat had been slit. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:02 a.m., September 2, 2012.

Six-year-old Dominick was nothing less than a hero.

Osvaldo Rivera was no longer in the house. He made his way home to mommy, but did his best to cover his tracks. His escape route was very convoluted and even involved jumping fences.

Osvaldo Rivera was covered in blood when he got home. He recruited his mother to help him escape. The woman may not have realized that her precious boy had raped a child and murdered another child that night, but she knew he was involved in something really bad. She drove him to River Road where he had friends who would help him.

While her chickenshit attacker was busy trying to escape, the 12-year-old girl was undergoing immediate surgery to repair her wounds, including a cut windpipe. She was in critical condition.

Police, acting on the girl’s identification of “Poppy”, began looking for “Popeye” Osvaldo Rivera. They interviewed his mother who denied knowing anything.

Local residents proved to be helpful to the investigation. Police soon learned that Osvaldo Rivera spent many nights at an apartment on River Road. Sure enough, when they visited that apartment the police found the murdering child rapist squashed between a mattress and a bedroom wall. They also found his blood-stained shirt and his blood-stained sneakers that *shock* matched the bloody footprints in the victims’ house.

Osvaldo Rivera, caught dead to rights, began telling police he’d been high when he’d attacked the children. He said he’d smoked “wet” which is a combination of marijuana and PCP, and induces hallucinations and violence.

Police discounted the killer’s claims — his complicated, winding escape route to his mother’s house showed he was not physically or mentally impaired at the time.

At his bail hearing in a Camden courtroom, Osvaldo Rivera sobbed like a baby. An evil baby. Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Browl, Jr. set his bail at $5 million cash or bond.

Osvaldo Rivera went to trial in July 2014. He faced a veritable shitload of charges. His defense was he was drunk when the attacks occurred — a claim that was successfully refuted by the prosecution.

On July 11, 2014, Osvaldo Rivera, 33, was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, burglary, terroristic threats, felony murder, 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and 2 weapons counts. The jury had spent less than 3 hours to decide upon the verdicts.

The child rapist/murderer Osvaldo Rivera will be sentenced on October 23, 2014. The Prosecutor will be asking for life in prison. I shall endeavour to keep readers posted about his sentence. Reminders are, as always, welcome.

I truly hope the surviving victim has fully recovered and that she and her sisters can live safe, happy and successful lives.

I extend my sincerest condolences to Dominick’s family and friends. He was a pint-sized hero and would likely have made great contributions to society had he lived longer. The world is made less by his loss.

RIP, Dominick.

I truly hope Osvaldo Rivera never sees the light of day again. I hope he is well known in the prison system as a child raper and killer.

And for her part in the scheme of things, I hope Osvaldo Rivera’s mother is well known in her neighbourhood as being the mother of a child raper and killer. If she’d succeeded in helping her son escape justice, how many more little girls would he have raped? How many more children would have died at his hands?

A mother’s job is to raise their children to be good citizens. Osvaldo Rivera’s mother failed miserably at that. She raised a monster.

Osvaldo Rivera was sentenced to 110 years in prison.

Cleo you forgot to list pedophile under the crimes heading because he is a murdering pedophile to be sure. He raped an underaged girl. I hope his new pals in prison understand just how low a piece of shit he is.

  2. 2cute says:

Little Dominick was a beautiful, shining example of a selfless and brave human being. His killer should be wiped from the planet for what he did. He should never get out of prison. He should be buried under the prison.

  3. bulldoggy says:

Was this his first crime? I bet he had a long list of previous convictions and I bet this wasn’t his first rape. His mother should hang her head in shame at the worthless POS she raised.

  4. bengalpuss says:

What a brave little man dominik was, for a little boy of his age to show such courage, i’m in awe of him. As for the piece of shite murdering nonce, general population, and his mother should be locked away for perverting the course of justice. Shame this cunt didn’t get the death penalty, worthless piece of crap he is.

  5. moodymagic says:

What a beautiful little boy. A true hero who paid the ultimate price. Bengal you said it best about Dominik. Why isn’t this bastard facing the death penalty. I hope you burn in hell forever. Mommy dearest what a prize you are as well. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!

  6. Rhonda says:

Why are they are even considering a life sentence for this monster? Rape of a child that age should carry a death sentence and then to turn around and murder that small little brother – I think this creep has earned an execution with those crimes.

  7. Dawn says:

Should be a death sentence. And mom should go to prison for hindering the prosecution, and aiding and abetting a felony.

  8. Dawn says:

Oh, wait. I just saw it’s New Jersey. They don’t have the DP.

    • bengalpuss says:

Dawn and moodymagic, it’s a shame that they don’t have the death penalty where he committed this cowardly act, the death penalty is for scumbags like this evil piece of shit. Domanick was so brave for a little guy, he thought about others and paid the ultimate price. I hope that popeye the piece of shit bumps into a nasty prisoner, and gets his arse whooped on a regular basis.

The death penalty is absolutely not the way to go for this guy, when he will spend the rest of his days at the hands of some very very heavy dudes who know what he has done. Have you seen what they do to people like this in prison. Why spare him of that with a death sentence, when he will be living in hell

I’d like to know why the hell the kids’ mother was not charged with child negligence at the very least. A 14 year old is, by law and definition, a CHILD.. whom was left in charge of 3 other children ALONE! I’m sorry but the rape of the girl and murder of the boy is on Mom’s shoulders as she couldn’t be bothered to get an adult to watch all of her kids that night. This would not have ended so badly had the kids been under adult supervision. I hope she gets into trouble so she can’t force the kids to fend for themselves again in the future.

    • someone says:

By law you are legally allowed to babysit when you are 12 given that you pass the babysitters courses. The mother has to live the rest of her life knowing what happened to her kids. The mother did nothing wrong and for you to blame a victim is a crying shame. Its like saying its the mothers fault if she’s walking her child to school and crossing the road when a drunk driver comes screaming along hitting her child. It’s totally the mothers fault right cause she was crossing the road which means she was the one getting her child to walk on the street. Give your head a shake.

    • bengalpuss says:

I was gonna mention that, but seen as you brought it up then i won,t bother.

    • disgusted j. says:

shame on you Leasha. Babysitting is not an open invitation to burglars, pedophiles, rapists, and murderers. A teenager is quite capable of taking care of herself and a six year old for a night or two. Leaving a capable teenager with a child that proved to be extraordinarily mature and selfless (Dominick) in their own home, with all the resources they need to get by for a very short period of time is NOT child abuse. And to someone hellbent on harming others–breaking in and committing violence–adult presence does not somehow imbue those around them with an impenetrable protective force-field. Adults are frequently attacked and incapacitated in their own homes and their children subsequently also victimized. Sadly, even armed people get overtaken and caught off guard. A woman fresh from surgery is not going to be capable of hulking out against a frenzied psychopath anyway. This was not a case of leaving a toddler home alone with the windows wide open… yet you blame this poor woman as if she was guilty of that kind of negligence. What happened to her children is horrible enough. Stop with the victim blaming, because, yes, the mother is a victim too. She did nothing to cause this tragic attack. She did not fail her children–she could not have possibly foreseen this outcome. Put the blame squarely where it belongs; with the killer-rapist and HIS enabling and abetting mother.

      • BENGALPUSS says:

Disgusted j, you are right when you say that even if an adult would of been present, someone hell bent on committing this crime would have also attacked an adult, i don’t think if the mother was there that it would’ve been a different outcome.
