Crime: Murder.

The divorce between Duane Lucius and Laura Coward of Alberta, Canada, wasn’t an easy one. The couple separated in October 2007, and the divorce wasn’t granted until August 2014.

The divorce was contentious, bitter, and involved a nasty custody battle over their young daughter, Amber. The fact that Duane Lucius wanted his daughter very much seemed to incite his ex-wife’s wrath and determination that he wouldn’t get Amber.

I think it’s fair to say that Laura Coward viewed her beautiful daughter as less a person with thoughts and feelings, and more a bargaining chip or weapon she could use to hurt Duane Lucius.

Despite there being 10 court orders that directed Laura Coward to allow her ex access to Amber, she did not comply. Not good. The court wasn’t impressed, so in June 2013 Duane Lucius was granted full custody.

amber luciusAmber had a happy life with her father. They lived on a farm near Millet, Alberta, and the fun-loving girl had good times playing outside.

At the end of August 2014, the divorce was finalized and the custody battle was over. Amber, then 9, was going to stay with her father for good.

Amber was also allowed to visit her mother. On August 28, 2014, the Labour Day long weekend, Duane Lucius dropped off his beloved daughter. He expected her back home in 3 days’ time. She had to get ready for the start of school.

Amber did not return home. I’m sure Duane Lucius was more than a little pissed off as he drove to Laura Coward’s home to fetch his daughter. I can’t imagine how he felt when he discovered his ex had moved out, and Amber was nowhere to be found.

The RCMP was called, and 35 officers were involved in the case. Tragically, there could have been 135 officers and it wouldn’t have changed the outcome for Amber Grace Lucius.

At around 10:30 p.m. on August 30, 2014, Laura Coward took Amber away from a group of friends to go “star gazing”. She drove to get some Timbits (a tasty Canadian treat from Tim Hortons) in Sundre. As her daughter enjoyed the treat, she continued to drive her SUV down a rural road until she hit a dead end. They were near a remote property that belonged to her former boyfriend.

At that time, nighttime in the middle of nowhere, Alberta, Laura Coward produced some sleeping pills she’d stolen from a friend. It was Zopiclone.

I don’t know how she managed to get the pills inside Amber, but she successfully administered a toxic (but not lethal) dose of the medication. The girl passed out. According to Laura Coward, she likewise took a toxic dose.

I gather that the plan was to kill them both with an overdose. Selfish bitch!

Eventually, Laura Coward woke up. Amber was still asleep but her stupid, hellbeastly mother thought she was dead.

What to do, what to do? Call 911? Hell no. Instead, the hellbitch made her way to her ex-boyfriend’s home and stole his propane torch. She returned to the truck and, with her unconscious daughter inside, she set fire to it.

That’s right, Laura Coward burned her daughter alive.

A hang-up call to 911 on September 2, 2014, led RCMP officers to the burned-out vehicle. There was a handwritten note on the driver’s door that read, “Help me. It was an accident. Locked keys in.”

Laura Coward emerged from her ex-boyfriend’s home, wrapped up in a blanket, just in time to be arrested.

The autopsy on Amber showed that she died of hyperthermia, smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide toxicity.

Laura Coward, that vile creature, was charged with 1st-degree murder. She pled guilty to 2nd-degree murder in February, 2017.

At her sentencing in March, 2017, Laura Coward begged her ex, her family and friends to forgive her.

“I want to say to the father, my family, friends that I’m responsible for my choices and I beg for their forgiveness and I plead for your mercy,” she told the judge.

Court of Queen’s Bench Judge Scott Brooker said that the crime was “the ultimate betrayal”. He added that the murder was vile, random and senseless, and motivated by revenge against Duane Lucius.

Judge Brooker sentenced Laura Coward to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 18 years.

Duane Lucius remembered Amber as the light of his life. The following is his victim impact statement:

“Today is another reminder of my devastating loss. Amber was an innocent child and a selfish act ended her life.

“I had only had one year with Amber to renew our bond as father and daughter. During that time Amber was always helping me on the farm and loved playing outside. She was a happy little girl loved by the entire community.

“Since the moment Amber was born, she was the light of my life. She was energetic, talkative and full of joy. I will never get to watch my daughter grow up, but I know she would have done great in life.

“No sentence will do justice for what has happened to Amber. As a father, I have had to bury my child and nothing will bring her back. I can only hope that other children are not being used as bargaining chips in a divorce or used to hurt the other parent. No parent should ever take a child’s life just to get back at the other. We are supposed to provide our children with love, not scare them. Because of this situation she was taken away from me, and all who loved her, far too soon.

“Amber was my life and I will miss her every day until my end. I will never forget her.”

The poor bereaved man addressed the murderer and said that he would never forgive her for the pain she caused.

‘I feel upset (about) how someone could do something like this to a little, innocent girl with a whole life ahead of her,’ Duane Lucius said.

RIP, Amber Grace Lucius. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. She deserved a long, happy life, and the world is a lesser place without her in it.

Laura Coward, IMO, doesn’t deserve forgiveness. She committed a horrific crime against someone who loved her dearly out of revenge and anger. Long may she remember the pain and agony and death she inflicted needlessly and selfishly. I hope the memories give her ceaseless pain.

What a horrible vindictive cunt she is, she murdered that little girl just to spite the ex husband and then has the Fucking cheek to ask her ex family and friends for forgiveness, and the judge for mercy? Where was the mercy for little amber? My heart goes out to her dad, I hope the incubator suffers daily in jail, child murderers don’t have it good inside, hopefully bubbette will teach her what pain really feels like. And I don’t buy her remorse Bullshit talk in court, she did what she did to spite her ex.

cleo, no picture of this slag bag?

I know, right? I have been searching online for a picture of this worthless turd, but only found pics of beautiful Amber. She looked like such a happy child in the pics I found. I will NEVER understand or fathom how a parent could harm or kill their own child. I hope I never understand why. I know lots of couples who would kill to be able to have a child of their own, and then I read about these pieces of shit who can have them, but either abuse them or kill them! How does that make any sense? And 18 years? Drug offenders in the USA get more time than that, and they didn’t even kill anyone!! Where is the justice?

      • Bengalpuss. says:

Jeni c, I don’t understand how this cunt got to plead to 2nd degree murder, we all know that this vile fucker had planned to murder that little girl all along. She’s like one of those people in relationships that kill their partner because “if I can’t have them then nobody can, the only difference is that this cunt face Fuck did that to her own daughter. Just think about that for a moment? To spite her ex she murdered that little angel and then asks the judge for mercy, I can’t wrap my head around that. Also when she said she was guilty of her choices, didn’t anyone else notice that she said “I want to say to the father” she was Fucking still sticking the boot in while asking for mercy the narcissistic cunt.

I don’t understand why people continue to use their children as pawns in their games against each other. I can’t remember her name, but Cleo has an article about her on this site, and she murdered her 12 year old daughter because she thought the new man in her life wanted her to! He was interviewed after the fact and said that he NEVER gave her an ultimatum and certainly never told her to murder her own daughter! These parents who murder their children are going to answer to a higher power, not just the legal one!! She showed no mercy to her daughter, why should she be shown any? Well, child killers and pedoohiles usually don’t have it very easy in prison. The hardest of killers look down on people who prey on and murder children. I hope they give her a warm welcome and show her the hospitality she showed her daughter!

Jeni C, I think you are talking about Penny Boudreau.

          • Jeni C says:

Yes, Bulldoggy, that is who I am talking about, Penny Boudreau! I couldn’t think of her name right off the top of my head! What a heartless cunt!

        • Jeni C says:

BP, you and I apparently have the same brain, because we think alike when it comes to things like the things on this site! You have very “colorful” language and always hit the nail on the head when it comes to the names you call these hellbeasts!! Haha! I love it! I wish you, me, Bulldoggy and DecentPeopleOnly could be the judge, jury and executioners of these pieces of crap!! We would definitely “take out the trash” when it comes to these hellbeasts, and we would give them the punishment they rightly deserve!!! Dare to dream…

Seems fitting her name is coward after killing her child. Let’s see how she likes it when she gets burned alive. Karmas a bitch

    Utterly Evil Burning a Daughter

    Murder Warrants the Death Penalty

Why should a Guilty Murderer of a Defenceless Children get Parole ?

  6. Deb says:

What a narcissist. Completely unfeeling and unable to see even her own flesh and blood as anything other than an object to satisfy her selfish wants. Unfit to live. Too bad that angel was the one to die. Wish the ‘mother’ had offed herself and left the daughter alone.

    • Bengalpuss. says:

She’s too narcissistic to do that deb, and she wanted the satisfaction of seeing her ex suffer, the selfish bastard she is. I hope that her life is made that miserable in jail that she will kill herself and do the world a favour. I wish I knew what jail she was in, id write her a few letters to try and convince her to kill herself.

  7. Dawn says:

It’s a shame when people hate their exes more than they love their children.

  8. AngryLittleMexican says:

No matter how much I hated my ex I could never even fathom harming my child, bc at the end of the day I made them, they are parts of me. This bitch’s self hate caused this and I hope she continues hating her worthless self her entire sentence. I hope someone finds a photo so when she is released her neighbors can run her out.

    • Jeni C says:

I couldn’t do that to my child either, no matter how much I hated their father! The children don’t need to be the ones used as pawns, or have to suffer…if you are going to take anything out on anyone, and you hate your ex/child’s father, then take it out on them, not the kids!

  9. LawyerChick says:

This is horrible. It would be a death penalty case in Texas. Eighteen years???

  10. miss mortician says:

My only one hope is that the poor girl was still knocked out when the flames got her. I pray she never had to realize that her mother, the one who should have protected and loved her above all else, was the one killing her.

Coward. Such a fitting name for a child killer.

  11. LeslieRN says:

Eighteen years – eighteen years for a little girl’s life that was taken from her in a horrible way. A little girl who had people to love her, especially her Dad – she had a normal little girl world, and I’m sure she would have been somebody special. Eighteen years. I hope for prison justice, because this sentance is a sorry joke, and an insult to the memory of the victim.
