Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley

Crimes: Murder, Conspiracy, Criminal Confinement, Drug Dealing

When I read about murderers Jordan Wayne Buskirk and Randal Edward Crosley, I had to think about the notorious killers Leopold and Loeb. Nathan Leopold was highly intelligent, spoke 15 languages and had graduated from university with Phi Beta Kappa honors. His pal, Richard Loeb, was also highly intelligent, skipped over several grades and was the youngest graduate of the University of Michigan at only 17. These two, with their high IQs and wealthy families, decided to kill — to commit the perfect murder just because. That was back in 1924.

For those who don’t know their tale, Leopold and Loeb were caught because they carelessly left evidence behind — a pair of glasses. They assumed they had covered their tracks but they hadn’t, and their panicky attempts at fabricating alibis were doomed.

Fast forward to June 2013. Jordan Wayne Buskirk and Randal Edward Crosley of Jasonville, Indiana, decided to kill just because. They didn’t much care who their victim was — a stranger was preferable.

The two nasty POS assholes had discussed and planned killing and raping at length, and then they got serious about it. They went shopping in Terre Haute and bought handcuffs, condoms, positional restraints, ropes, an anchor and an anal sex toy. These items were for their rape and murder kit.

Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley didn’t have the high IQs that Leopold and Loeb had — not even close — and they didn’t have the wealthy, influential families either. However, they had the same extreme hubris and complete lack of morality that allowed them to think they were entitled to kill at will.

At 8 p.m. on June 5, 2013, Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley met up with 19-year-old Katelyn Nicole Wolfe of Linton. The three completed a drug transaction, and Katelyn Wolfe was dropped off at her home. Tragically she didn’t stay home. Later that evening Katelyn Wolfe phoned Jordan Buskirk in a bid to get more valium. She had no way of knowing what was in store for her.

While Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley had initially planned to nab, rape and kill a stranger, they agreed Katelyn Wolfe was a suitable target. She was a tiny girl, and trusting. That made her easy pickings. And so they arranged to pick her up near her home.

Before they collected their victim, Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley ingested a large amount of “Spice” — I guess that was to help them get up the nerve, or maybe it was to enhance the experience.

Katelyn WolfeWith Katelyn ensconced in Jordan Buskirk’s car, they drove out to a rural area in Greene County. The killers made a few practice stops before they unleashed their vicious attack.

Katelyn Wolfe didn’t stand a chance but she put up a damn good fight. Jordan Buskirk handcuffed her and then Randal Crosley duct taped his shirt over her head. Things got really brutal after that.

Randal Crosley punched the poor girl in the face and he choked her until she settled down, but then feisty Katelyn Wolfe began to struggle once again. Randal Crosley duct taped her ankles so she couldn’t escape.

As the poor girl lay on the ground, unable to move, Jordan Buskirk asked her, “Are you scared?” Heartless, he is.

The two hellbeasts decided at that point that the girl “needed to die”. It seems that the rape portion of the evil pair’s agenda was now cancelled.

It was Jordan Buskirk who choked the unfortunate girl to death. The monstrous killer wrapped a rope around Katelyn Wolfe’s neck, put his foot on her back and strangled her until she died.

Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley bundled their victim’s body into the trunk of the car and drove off. They took more drugs as they drove through the countryside. Eventually they stopped, pulled the body out of the trunk and bound it with ropes into a fetal position. They attached the anchor to the ropes and then put everything back into the trunk.

Jordan Buskirk and Randal Crosley wound up at a nearby lake in Sullivan County. They threw Katelyn Wolfe’s body into the water. I’m sure they were pleased with themselves at that moment. They were now bona fide killers.

Randal Crosley decided to get clever — well, clever for him anyway. He used their victim’s cell phone to update her Facebook account. The post he wrote said Katelyn Wolfe was “out on a walk with creeps that keep driving by.”

The next evening Katelyn’s concerned family reported her missing. The police obtained the girl’s phone records and began calling everyone she’d phoned the night before. Big surprise — she’d called Jordan Buskirk. Likely he was the very last person she called.

I’m sure the hellbeast wasn’t very happy when the police contacted him. Like Leopold and Loeb he wasn’t prepared for that eventuality and so he lied.

Jordan Buskirk told the police that he didn’t know anything about the missing girl. Dumb move. Investigators soon uncovered the fact that Katelyn Wolfe’s cell phone had been in the exact same location as his cell phone and Randal Crosley’s cell phone the night she went missing.

Investigators interviewed Randal Crosley and his wife, Tamera. Yes, the evil bastard was married, and his wife was just a teenager.

Randal Crosley admitted selling valium to Katelyn Wolfe. Tamera insisted she knew nothing about her husband being involved in selling drugs. That was a stupid lie that would eventually bite her in the butt.

Police questioned Jordan Buskirk again, and this time he admitted that he and his pal Crosley had seen her a couple of times that night, and he insisted she’d been alive when they last saw her.

Police asked the snivelly little asshole to undergo a polygraph examination, and Jordan Buskirk agreed. I’m surprised by that — maybe the f*cktard was actually pompous enough to think he could outsmart the machine. He couldn’t. He failed miserably.

On June 10, 2013, at the time Jordan Buskirk was undergoing the polygraph interview, the body was found in the lake. Investigators had been working 22 hour shifts and their hard work had paid off! Kudos to them for their dedication!

Investigators checked out Jordan Buskirk’s car and found solid evidence of the crime. This included the victim’s DNA in the trunk and on his jeans, and a roll of duct tape that matched a piece found on the body.

Investigators also tracked down video footage of the shopping trip at Gander Mountain where the demonic duo bought the handcuffs, restraints, and anal sex toy. The videos showed them both smiling and having a good old time as they picked out and purchased the items.

Jordan Buskirk was well and truly caught and he knew it. He wisely decided to confess all and to cooperate with the police. He made a deal with Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw. It was a deal that the prosecutor found repugnant but necessary.

“[T]he agreement to have him cooperate and for me to uphold my word to tell the court that he did, to me it was worth it to be able to find out exactly what happened and where it happened. But I’ll be honest, I had no idea of the gruesome nature of what had happened when I made that agreement,” Prosecutor Holtsclaw said.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Jordan Buskirk would plead guilty to felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit rape, and criminal confinement with use of a vehicle. He would also testify against his pal Randal Crosley.

In Indiana, the penalty for felony murder is 45 to 65 years, and a possible fine up to $10,000. The penalty for conspiracy to commit murder is 20 to 50 years plus a possible fine. For conspiracy to commit rape the penalty is 6 to 20 years plus a possible fine. For criminal confinement the sentence range is 2 to 8 years plus a possible fine.

According to the plea deal, sentencing was to be left to the discretion of Greene Superior Court — the only proviso being that 3 of the 4 sentences would be served concurrently. The court would decide if the conspiracy to commit rape charge would be served concurrently or consecutively.

On December 3, 2013, Jordan Buskirk appeared before Judge Dena Martin to admit that he and his pal Randal had planned and committed the murder of Katelyn Wolfe. As agreed he pled guilty to the 4 charges. His sentencing was postponed until after Randal Crosley’s trial.

As it turned out, Randal Crosley figured out he didn’t stand a snowball’s chance. In early February 2014 he pled guilty to felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit rape, criminal confinement, and dealing in a controlled substance.

On March 4, 2014, Randal Edward Crosley, 26, was sentenced by Judge Dena Martin to 81 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Yay!

On March 18, 2014, Jordan Wayne Buskirk, 27, had his turn to be sentenced by Judge Dena Martin. At his sentencing he got to address the court. “I was just not in my right mind,” he explained. He then apologized to the Wolfe family and his own family. He even apologized for lying to the detectives at the start of the investigation.

Katelyn WolfeEric Wolfe, Katelyn’s dad, addressed the court too. “My daughter’s in a box … and it sits on a shelf. And this is someone I was closer to than anyone,” the heartbroken man told her killer.

Beth Wolfe, Katelyn’s aunt, told the nasty hellbeast, “You were the true predator. You were the leader.” She really tore a strip off him with her tirade, pretty much pointing out every aspect of the crime that showed what a loathsome, despicable creature he truly is.

The court also heard from Jordan Buskirk’s mother who addressed the Wolfe family. “If I’d known anything – anything, I would have tried to stop him. But I want you all to know that you’re in our hearts, in our thoughts, and in our prayers,” she said.

Jordan Buskirk’s father also apologized to the Wolfe family and assured them he’d had no idea of what his son was planning to do. He then told his evil offspring, “Son, I hope they don’t send you away forever.”

Judge Martin sentenced Jordan Buskirk to 81 years in prison. I’m sure the evil little bastard was shocked that, even with a plea deal, even with his cooperation, he still got the same sentence as his pal.

Judge Martin explained things to the killer very clearly. “The court is going to give you credit for being cooperative. You cooperated after you failed a polygraph examination. You’d already failed that polygraph, the body had been found, and they had the videos from Gander Mountain,” she pointed out.

The judge continued on with the mitigating circumstances. “Yes, you have a child – a small child … You knew that you had a 3-year-old child when you did this. I can’t give a whole lot of weight to that,” she said. “You have no criminal record – man, when you started out you started out big. You’re a convicted murderer, so again that’s not going to pull a lot of weight.”

The judge then moved onto aggravating circumstances. “I see you and you say you’re remorseful. Well, you’re remorseful because your parents are sitting right behind you. Anytime your mom or dad cries, a person needs to be upset. That is a break-your-heart feeling. But Mr. Wolfe is not going to ever get to see his daughter cry again – because of your actions.”

The judge pointed out that he and his pal had been excited about raping and killing to see what it was like. “Just to see what it was like! Some people think like that about going on a vacation – oh, I’ll go to such and such a place just to see what it’s like. And then they go shopping to get the clothes for it. YOU wanted to see what it was like to rape and kill somebody, and so you went shopping. You were smiling and happy doing it. You got some candy along with the anchor.”

Get the feeling Judge Martin didn’t much like Jordan Buskirk? And she wasn’t done yet.

“You placed a rope around her throat and pulled, putting your foot on her back until you took the life of Katelyn Wolfe. The circumstances of this heinous, cold, calculated crime far, far outweigh the mitigating circumstances,” said Judge Martin, and I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Judge Martin could’ve handed Jordan Buskirk the maximum — 85 years, so 81 years was a deal, of sorts.

Prosecutor Holtsclaw was pleased overall with the sentences.

“We’re bound as prosecutors and judges to follow the law, and I know a lot of people would have liked to have seen a lot more [time added to the sentence], but again, 81 years is a long time. By the time they’re released, if they live that long, they’ll be old men and no longer a threat to the community,” Prosecutor Holtsclaw said.

Jordan Buskirk appealed his sentence, but lost. So now he and his partner-in-crime, Randal Crosley, can sit and rot in prison for the next 8 decades and figure out if murdering for thrills was a good idea.

Tamera Crosley, 19, who lied to police about her husband, was sentenced to 1 year in the Greene County jail for false informing and obstruction of justice. I wonder if the girl will stay married to her convicted killer husband now, or if she’ll divorce and move on with her life. Eighty-one years is a long time to wait for someone.

I hope Jordan Buskirk’s young son doesn’t grow up with his father’s shadow hanging over him. I hope he has every chance to live a happy, successful life.

RIP, Katelyn Wolfe. According to her dad she’d wanted to be a writer. She looked like a creative sort of person. How tragic that her young life was destroyed for no good reason. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her friends and family. Hopefully the sentences handed to her killers will provide some solace.

Notice how these scumbags always try to use their domestic/familial relationships to their advantage when their being punished for their crimes? All of a sudden, Jordan Buskirk is worried about his 3 year old son and Randal Crosley is worried about his relationship with his 19 year old wife Tamara. YEAH RIGHT! I’m sure Buskirk never gave one thought about his son throughout this entire ordeal because he most likely wasn’t very involved in the child’s life to begin with, but even if he was a great dad to his son – this man planned to rape and kill an innocent woman so his son doesn’t need to be influenced by his father. Randal Crosley was making plans to rape and kill a woman, so I don’t think his teenage marriage was going to work out anyway. If Tamara Crosley is smart, then she’ll quietly do her time for the fuck-up error she made and then she’ll run to the nearest divorce lawyer, get a divorce, get a degree, get a good job, and put all of this chapter of her life behind her!

To the Wolfe family, I am so sorry for your loss of Katelyn. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Both should’ve gotten the death penalty. They don’t deserve to live IMO.

I really hope Buskirk’s son can grow up not knowing who his dad is and what he did. It would be better if he thought his father was dead.

  6. Krissi says:

What a pair of idiots. RIP Katelyn. You were a beautiful and creative girl and I know a lot of people are going to miss you.

  7. fuctup says:

Vermin like them should be exterminated.

  8. Astro says:

This really is a grotesque story and Buskirk’s protestations of remorse, after he was caught and before sentencing, are not to be taken seriously. You don’t premeditate and commit a crime like this and have the capacity for real empathy or remorse. There’s a good chance the’ll both die in prison, even though they technically have a chance at release one day. Hopefully their “youthful indiscretion” will have them kicking themselves every day for the rest of their wretched lives.

  9. Katherine says:

I live in Terre Haute, and it turns my stomach what these two POS did. They deserve all they get in prison.
