Crimes: Attempted Murder, Murder

Erika Wigstrom of Belle Chasse, Louisiana was really looking forward to having a baby. The 19-year-old posted photos of her “baby bump” on the Internet, and shared with the world every experience of being pregnant including her weight gain and food cravings. The young woman also wrote of her devotion to her unborn baby on Twitter. “I’ll do what ever I have to, as long as you have a good and happy life,” she wrote. “Mommy loves her little prince.”

Erika Wigstrom sounded like she’d be a doting mom. She might have been had she given birth to a healthy baby, but she didn’t. Little Lucas Ruiz was born with Down’s syndrome and holes in his heart. The poor little guy would need surgeries to repair his heart, but nothing could change the Down’s syndrome.

When Lucas was only 2 months old, he began to have breathing problems. Already he needed heart surgery, so he was admitted into Ochsner Medical Center. The poor baby.

Out of the blue, while in hospital, little Lucas began suffering from horrible seizures that caused damage to his brain. As if he didn’t have enough challenges in his life!

Doctors conducted tests and were no doubt shocked to find that the baby had a blood alcohol content of .289. That’s 3 1/2 times the legal driving limit. How the hell did that happen?

Naturally the authorities questioned Erika Wigstrom and Cesar Ruiz, the baby’s teenaged father. I think Cesar Ruiz wanted to protect his girlfriend, so he told the police he’d given the baby some rum as a pain reliever.

Cezar Ruiz must have thought Erika Wigstrom was the love of his life, and he was willing to do anything for her. It must have come as a shock to the young man when his girlfriend threw him under the bus.

Erika Wigstrom had the gall to tell the police that her boyfriend had said Lucas would be better off dead and he wished the baby would die in surgery. Holy shit!

There was no way the police were going to believe Cezar Ruiz was just trying to relieve his baby’s pain with rum after what Erika Wigstrom said. They were convinced that he was trying to murder Lucas, and they interrogated him until they got the confession they wanted.

Cezar Ruiz sobbed when he eventually did confess. I’m sure he was devastated to learn that the love of his life cared so little for him.

Not surprisingly, Cezar Ruiz was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree cruelty to a juvenile. With her boyfriend behind bars, Erika Wigstrom was off the hook, but she still had a sick and handicapped baby boy on her hands.

Erika Wigstrom made the most of her situation for a bit. She was interviewed by WWLTV about the trauma she endured with her baby’s alcohol poisoning.

“That baby had a seizure in that hospital bed with me and all the nurses and the ICU doctors standing around his bed, for 58 minutes,” she said. “I talked to that baby the entire time, trying to get him to come back to me.”

“That baby”? She called her son “that baby”! Those words certainly don’t sound maternal to me. It’s like she was verbally distancing herself from her baby.

On January 24, 2014, little Lucas Ruiz had a medical emergency. The 17-month-old was found by emergency medical technicians to be “breathless and pulseless”. They rushed him to the hospital but to no avail. Lucas Ruiz was declared dead on arrival.

The autopsy was completed 5 weeks later. It found that the baby’s blood alcohol content was .28 percent — 3 times the legal driving limit. Hmmmm, coincidence? Hell no.

Erika Wigstrom was brought in by Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s detectives for questioning on March 11, 2014. It didn’t take long for her to confess to murdering her child. She’d put Germ-X into his feeding tube. Germ-X is a hand sanitizer that contains ethyl alcohol.

And finally, finally Erika Wigstrom confessed to trying to kill her baby in October 2012. She hadn’t used rum — she’d injected an alcohol-based perfume into his feeding tube. She had promised her baby “a good and happy life” but instead delivered brain damage and then an agonizing death.

Based upon Erika Wigstrom’s confession and arrest, Cezar Ruiz’s charges were reduced to criminal mischief for giving a false report. His bond was reduced from $100,000 to $10,000. On August 31, 2014 he was found guilty and ordered to pay $850 in fines and fees.

On March 26, 2014, Erika Wigstrom was indicted by a grand jury on 1st-degree and attempted 1st-degree murder charges. The district attorney decided not to seek the death penalty.

On September 15, 2015 the murderous mother pled guilty to manslaughter. Judge Kevin Conner sentenced her to 40 years in prison without a chance of probation. That was the maximum sentence allowable.

Erika Wigstrom was 22 at her sentencing, so she’ll be almost a senior citizen when she’s finally released from prison. I’m relieved to think she won’t be having any more children. I hope she’ll spend those 40 years growing a conscience and a soul. What she did was not a mercy killing. Although Lucas faced a lifetime of challenges, he could have had a full and happy life.

RIP, baby Lucas. I extend my condolences to those who mourn his loss.

I wish Cezar Ruiz good luck in the future. He deserved much better than he got from his heartless, murderous girlfriend. article – guilty plea

You always hit the nail right on the head, DecentPeopleOnly! All of these parents who are murdering and abusing their children don’t deserve the air they breathe. Instead of murdering and abusing their children, they need to give them to families that will love and cherish them. These murderous wastes of space don’t even deserve the prison cells and prison food they are getting! When is the government going to take these tragedies more seriously??

Burn in hell monster bitch what a painful death you gave your baby boy.

I agree. I have a friend at my youth center who has Down’s Syndrome and he gets to live a happy, productive life. I can’t believe Erika did that to her own child. She doesn’t deserve to breath the same AIR as everyone else. Personally, if I had MY way, I would have her locked away and I’d make absolutely sure that it wasn’t for 40 years. I’d lock her up to the day she starts to push up daisies. Or nettles, whichever seems more appropriate. Murdering her baby cause he has Down’s Syndrome? Would she have done it if the kid was black or Chinese or had cerebral palsy? There are some people in the world who just make me feel physically sick to my stomach.

What a wicked bastard to do that to her own son. Just looking into that little mans picture just melts your heart, so i just can’t comprehend how anybody let alone the mother could knowingly inflict such a horrific act to such a beautiful little boy. Also injecting hand sanitizer and aftershave must’ve been absolute agony for that little boy endure. This bitch shouldn’t see the light of day ever again.

Morality Needs to be at the Heart of Government Policy

Murderers and Child Abusers by Not being given the Death Penalty are
Better Treated than Homeless People who have Not done these Obnoxious

    • Bengalpuss says:

DPO, sadly your right, it seems the scumbag’s get better treatment than the offenders, if i had my way i’d tie the fuckers to a rocket and blast the cunts to furthest planet humanly possible. It fucking piss’s me off these cunts get preferential treatment. I totally agree with you dpo, bastards like this should be executed, in fact if i had my way i’d have them on a conveyer belt to the gurney, in fact lethal injection is too nice a way to go out so i’d hang draw and quarter the turd’s.

You totally took the words out of my mouth, Bengalpuss. It’s sad, but I don’t know if morality will ever be at the heart of government policy. So far, it doesn’t seem to be. It seems that with the invention of the internet and social media, we hear Kore and more about these parents and relatives who abuse and murder children. I am almost afraid to turn on the news and read websites like this one. But, the reality is, it is happening all over the world, every second of every day, whether we hear/read about it or not. I lost faith in our government (the USA), as well as the pathetic justice it gives victims, a long time ago.

        • Bengalpuss says:

Jeni C, i am amazed when someone has been tried before a jury and they are obviously guilty and are sent to prison, then they have their conviction quashed due to a silly technicality and get released, that makes me smh in disbelief. And your right, i sometimes dread watching the news or online because its everyday that barbaric things are done from one human to another, what hope do we have? This is the legacy we are leaving for our children and grandchildren.

          • Jeni C says:

You are absolutely right, BP. I weep for my children and the future they have to look forward to. I read and hear about the atrocities done to children, and adults, and I don’t understand how a mother, or father, can stand over their child and murder them. Or beat them to the point of death. Mental illness or not, this is WRONG! And I get so sick and tired of these hellbeasts being deemed as “mentally ill,” or people assuming they have something wrong with them, because they beat or murdered their child. Is it possible that these people murdered their child just because they WANTED TO? I mean, you don’t have to be mentally ill to commit a horrific crime against mankind! It could be they did it because they are evil and wanted to dp it. The human race just doesn’t want to believe a sane, logical person could do something so evil and wrong. Well, I’ve got news for them: there ARE people out there who enjoy doing these heinous things…whether they want to believe it or not!!

Exactly dpo, the future looks bleak. Everyday i read a story that involves so much cruelty and torture, makes me think what the hell happened growing up? I don’t believe your born evil, nature v nuture i just get more and more desensitized and nothing shocks me anymore.

That girl was in my graduating class and for years she was always the quiet one people thought to be awkward but yet witty. I never thought that I would ever hear about her in the news let alone globally about her harming her child. I knew her baby and he was always smiling with no cares in the world, she deserves everything she’s getting and more.
