Dr Myles Bradbury
Crimes: Pedophile

Pedophiles are sneaky bastards. Not all are disgusting creatures that hang around playgrounds to grab a child, although some are. Pedophiles often hide in plain sight, cloaked in respectability by working or volunteering in environments that naturally give them access to prospective victims. They are often commended for their “good works” with disadvantaged or vulnerable children. I’ve written about teachers, radio hosts, nurses, mayors, marines, police officers, priests, ministers and so on and so forth. They looked like solid citizens who could be trusted around children.

Dr. Myles Bradbury is one such sneaky bastard pedophile. He was a pediatric hematologist working at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, UK. His victims, disgustingly, were children suffering from cancer. Get that? Kids. Suffering. From. Cancer.

Dr. Bradbury was first fingered as a possible pedophile during a Canadian police inquiry into the online sale of movies that featured naked children. The investigation passed on information about him and 2344 other British pedos to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) back in July 2012. I don’t know why but that information was not shared with the police in Britain. WTF? Somebody had better be reviewing CEOP’s procedures.

Dr. Myles Bradbury was ideally situated in life for a predatory pedophile. He was trusted completely by the parents who brought in their sick children for medical treatment. As a doctor it was not suspicious for him to examine the children without their clothing on. In fact, the parents were often just on the other side of a curtain in the same room while the doctor “examined” the young boys’ genitals.

That’s the sort of pedophile Dr. Bradbury is. He targeted boys as young as 8 for “medical examinations” for his own sexual thrills. It is possible that as many as 800 young boys had their genitals “examined” for the doctor’s sexual gratification.

Because the boys were being fondled by their trusted doctor, they assumed what he did to them was what doctors did. Often, it wasn’t until they went to other doctors that they noticed nobody else was interested in their genitals.

One victim said, “Because he was a doctor I thought it was completely normal and he did it nearly every time I saw him.”

It wasn’t until the boy switched hospitals that his family started to become aware of the abuse that had taken place. The boy told them that the examinations by his new doctor didn’t involve his “privates”. I’m sure the parents were gobsmacked to find out their son had had his “privates” manhandled by Dr. Bradbury during every single appointment.

The doctor could have been stopped back in July 2012 if only CEOP had done their job. It was a further 16 months of Dr. Bradbury offending before he was stopped, and it was an alarmed mother who exposed his wrongdoing.

A police investigation found that Dr. Bradbury was in possession of more than 16,000 indecent images and 20 indecent videos of children. Investigators also found that Dr. Bradbury had secretly filmed somebody engaged in a sex act.

In 2014 Dr. Myles Bradbury of Herringswell, Suffolk was arrested and charged with sexual offenses against 18 victims.

In September, 2014, Dr. Myles Bradbury, 41, pled guilty in Cambridge Crown Court to 7 counts of sexual assault, 12 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and 3 counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Oh yeah, he also pled guilty to 1 count of voyeurism and 2 counts of making indecent images of a child.

Myles BradburyDr. Bradbury has yet to be sentenced but Judge Gareth Hawkesworth told him he could expect a “substantial” custodial sentence. Riiight. In British justice “substantial” doesn’t seem to translate into seriously lengthy periods of incarceration. I shall endeavour to keep readers posted about his sentence — reminders are welcome.

Detective Sergeant Shane Fasey said it best: “Bradbury’s offences were an appalling breach of trust committed against vulnerable victims who had been placed in his care. The families believed the boys were in his safe hands but they were actually being abused by Bradbury, who carried out examinations purely for his own sexual gratification and with no medical justification whatsoever.”

Detective Sergeant Fasey went on to say, “I would like to praise the victims and their families who have shown the bravery to come forward and help bring Bradbury to account.” I second that. They were very brave.

I hope that Dr. Bradbury does spend a considerable amount of time behind bars, and that when he gets out he won’t be allowed near or trusted with children. He will have to sign the sex offenders register when he’s released, but I don’t know how effective that is in protecting the public from predators like Dr. Myles Bradbury. All I know is the pedo didn’t stop himself — he had to be stopped. I wouldn’t trust him around children and young people ever again, and I hope everyone else who encounters him in the future will feel the same way.

UPDATE

Dr. Myles Bradbury was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his crimes. Yay.

The prosecutor told the court, “He took the opportunity of fondling the boy’s genitals and encouraging them to masturbate in his presence and obtain erections for his own personal gratification. On some occasions, when he failed to exclude the parent, he simply carried on behind the curtain behind which the boy had gone to remove his clothes.”

“For a doctor to attack children in this way is one of the worst forms of sexual abuse imaginable,” Judge Gareth Hawkesworth said during sentencing. “These boys were all vulnerable and gravely ill. In all my years on the bench, I have never come across such a grotesque betrayal of your Hippocratic oath.”

No big surprise, the pedophile was also involved in church and Scout groups. I would not be shocked if more young men/boys came forward to say they were victimized by him.

800 boys! Thank goodness he was stopped. Even having the parents in the same room didn’t deter him. Unbelievable.

I had this happen to me as a child. A local pediatrician was in practice for many years in my hometown. I remember my mother walking out of the room to go and schedule another appointment and when the door closed behind her, he slipped my pants down and touched me. I wiggled free, uncomfortable, pulled my pants back up and left him in the room. I thought at the time it was strange, but I didn’t tell anyone about it, because I thought that maybe he was just examining me as a doctor. Even though I knew it made me feel uncomfortable, I was probably five or six at the time and it didn’t occur to me until years later that what he did was molestation. He died a few years later(he was old when it happened). It makes me wonder how many children he did this to and always got away with it. And I figure a lot of kids suffered a lot worse than just a touch. He wouldn’t have if it hadn’t been for his profession. My mother always told me to tell her if anyone touched me inappropriately, but for some reason, I never did. Maybe it was because he was a doctor. I did NOT grow up in a sheltered/non-communicating home and still I didn’t speak up. That’s what scares me the most.

Kids are taught to trust doctors and police officers too, and so often that trust survives into adulthood. For that reason pedos like this doctor can continue for years without raising an eyebrow when they do freaky crap like this.

I completely agree with this sentiment. My husband and I activelt teach our daughter to stand up for herself, no matter who it is to. I have specifically pointed out that she should stand up for herself or what she believes in, regardless of age/authority. her school is very progressive as well, encouraging kids to call teachers by first name only, bc they aren’t above them, rather they work with them (quick explanation). I think bc I was physically hurt by a teacher that i may be biased, but my now 7 year old knew when the assistant teacher called her out for doing something, that she could appropriately defend her side. yet, we still had an incident with a peer touching her inappropriately for almost 2 weeks! i couldnt believe she didnt tell me. But, as her little, smart brain explained it, she expected inappropriate touching to be from an adult, not a young friend. While we thought we had explained the issue clearly, to tell us anytime something might be happening, she saw it as a time for her to simply tell her friend she didn’t like it, but kept dealing with it herself. I can only `

sorry, my littlest one submitted it for me… I was ending with saying that I can only hope that other parents or teachers, etc. can view this story as an example to explain anything that makes your child uncomfortable, whether adult, peer, friend, etc. needs to be specifically explained for young children, without scaring them into thinking it always happens.

What a horrible fucker this pig is, will he be given a slapped wrist or a suspended sentence? No doubt some dumb arse judge will sympathise with him because he’s a doctor and saved lives. Seriously british justice is fucked.

Update, doctor nonce has just been sentenced to 22years in prison with the judge telling him “you’ve abused the children and the hypocratic oath” i have to say that as far as british sentences go, this one is pretty good. I hope his new friends in prison give him a nice welcoming party.

  6. Tom Werbb says:

He was a good Dr apparently… in the medical sense.

  7. Katie says:

I’m pretty sure he already knew he was a pedophile by the time he went to medical school. I wonder if that’s why he got into the field; unfettered access to his desires. That would be super twisted – a patient & methodical predator.
