Cleo’s Latest Facial Reconstructions

Cleo of Hellbeasts

It’s time for an update on my facial reconstruction efforts. I have been doing work for the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office. They sent me photos of unidentified dead men, and from those I had to create credible and hopefully recognizable versions of those poor individuals’ faces. It was hard work, I must admit. The photos were either of very poor quality, or the faces of the deceased were bloodied and distorted.

I am happiest when working with skulls — the yucky factor is considerably less. That said, those poor guys deserve my best efforts to give them their identity back.

Happily for me, I have been given permission to post my efforts on my site. I am quite proud of what I’ve created.

I don’t know much by way of the dead men’s circumstances, but I’ll share with you what I do know.

The first fellow I worked on died in Daytona, Florida after jumping off a pier into the ocean. He was likely in his early 20’s, and had good teeth and a great head of curly hair. He was apparently running from police when he went into the water. He died in 1973.

Volusia County John Doe

The second fellow I really have no information about. The autopsy photo had been sliced up and taped back together. It appeared that somebody had drawn hair on his scalp. It was really tough to make this face, and I had to guess at his hairline. What is remarkable about the face are his thick lips and wide nostrils. His beard and eyebrows were grey, but he wasn’t very wrinkled, so I put his age in his 60’s.

Volusia County John Doe

The third fellow I worked on was between 30 and 70 years old. That’s quite an age span. To me he looked to be around 50. He’d been hit by a car and was in a coma for months before he died. There were two photos of him — one when he was admitted, and a morgue photo. He aged terribly in hospital, and was completely emaciated by the time he died. The man had terrible teeth, and it looks like most of his bottom teeth were gone. His nose was bent in both photos, but that could have been as a result of the accident. I kept his nose as it was instead of straightening it. Possibly this man had been living as a transient for years.

Volusia County John Doe

So there you have it, my latest efforts. Happily I have been told that they won’t be my last for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. The Medical Examiner is apparently gathering together some skulls to photograph for me. I really appreciate their cooperation.

If anyone out there has any idea who these deceased men are, please contact the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office: (386) 736-5961 West Volusia and (386) 254-4689 Daytona Beach.

I have been looking at this site for the last two or three years now. This is the first comment I have made. I wanted to tell you Cleo how much I admire what you do. I definitely couldn’t do a site like this as tastefully as you do. I am from new zealand and the violence of the world is absolutely horrifying to me. I especially enjoy reading comments from Bulldoggy and Moodymagic. Keep up the amazing work that you do. Reading this is definitely more informative than the local newspaper.

Hey one of those guys resembles me, but I’m not missing or dead. Sure hope your efforts pay off, Cleo. It would be so great if somebody knew them.

  6. bulldoggy says:

And Tully thinks your dog is cute too.

Cleo, just out of curiosity, why is the first fella’s picture side on instead of front view like the 2nd and 3rd? Your reconstructions cleo are really good, lets hope they are identified so they can be returned to their loved ones. Good job cleo.

Bengalpuss, since there was only one photo of the fella, I had to make the facial reconstruction at the same angle his face was in the photo. He was lying down, of course, so I rotated the photo to make him upright. I overlaid the facial reconstruction over that, making sure to match the nose, eyebrows, hairline, etc. The photo was just a polaroid, so it was a tricky job to do.

Cleo, you have a real talent for resurrecting these poor souls. I’ve lurked here 4 years, but I’ve never left a comment. Having been abused myself, I enjoy hearing about pedos getting justice; and wish you’d post more of them. Also, your dog is FREAKING adorable, morrrre pics, lol.

  11. Bengalpuss says:

So bulldoggy, you resemble one of these poor fella’s? So glad your not one of them, i wouldn’t have anybody to banter with otherwise.

I really admire your work, Cleo, both your reporting of these Hellbeasts and your facial reconstructions. Hopefully, these John and Jane Does will be identified and their families (if they have any left) can have closure. I also love to read the comments by Bengalpuss and Bulldoggy as well! You guys tell it like it is! Keep up the great work, Cleo! You too, Bengalpuss and Bulldoggy! :)

I’m going to jump on this bandwagon and say how much I enjoy your site also. Some of the stories make me cringe, but I am fascinated that people can do the things they do. I never EVER read the stories of animal abuse, my heart just can’t take it. I love your puppy’s picture by the way. I also find Bengalpus to be quite entertaining, I look forward to reading their post. Good job everyone. Thank you all for the insights.

    • Bengalpuss says:

Heart2soft, thank you i don’t mean to be entertaining but the things i come out with are sometimes funny, also with my sarcasm and smarmyness it comes across funny even though i’m commenting on heinous acts.
