Crime: Attempted Murder

When Lisa and Charles Reed Black got divorced in 2013, you could only be surprised it took so long. They’d only been married for 9 years, but if I were Lisa I’d have dumped her ex back in 2011 — when he tried to kill her.

Yup, it’s true — Charles Reed Black did his level best to murder his wife in April 2011. He pushed her off an 800-foot cliff after he hit her on the head with a rock.

Now you might ask just what Lisa Black had done to make her then-hubby want her dead. Well, it turns out that she had inherited a few million dollars from her father and she objected to Charles Reed Black spending her money without consulting her.

That’s right, Charles Reed Black was treating HER inheritance as his own and that upset her. No wonder he pushed her off a cliff, right? *snark*

And what else did Lisa Black do to piss off her husband enough to make him try to kill her? Well, she had an issue with his affair with another woman. She argued with him about it.

Can you imagine the nerve of the woman? Demanding RESPECT and FIDELITY from her husband?

As you can hopefully tell, I’m being totally sarcastic here. Lisa Black had done nothing to justify her husband’s hellbeastly actions. Instead, Charles Reed Black, being a completely selfish, narcissistic bastard, wanted all of her money plus his girlfriend. The only way he saw to getting everything he wanted was to rid himself of his wife.

It’s all so really pathetic. If Charles Reed Black hadn’t been so absolutely, unrelentingly selfish, he could have had a really nice, comfortable life with Lisa. After her father had died and left her with $4 million, she agreed to move from Kansas to Camden, Maine to fulfill Charles Reed Black’s dream of living there. The couple had no more debt and could have spent their retirement years enjoying life.

But no, it wasn’t to be. Charles Reed Black was not willing to share his wife’s fortune with his wife. He wasn’t willing to give up his girlfriend either. But he was willing to murder his unwanted spouse.

On April 7, 2011, Charles Reed Black took Lisa Black up Camden’s Maiden’s Cliff for a picnic. She thought they were going to try to work on their marriage. She had no clue what he was really planning.

Maiden's CliffAs the couple sat there enjoying the view at the top, Charles Black placed 2 big old rocks next to himself. Lisa didn’t think much of that. She stood up to enjoy the magnificent view of Megunticook Lake. That’s when her hellbeastly husband picked up the rocks and bashed her on the head 3 times.

Charles Reed Black grabbed his injured wife by the wrist and dragged her to the edge of the cliff. Mercilessly he pushed her off.

The cliff was, as I said, an 800-foot drop, but mercifully Lisa landed on a rock ledge several feet down. That’s what saved her life.

Fearing that her attacker would pursue her to kill her, Lisa climbed down to a sheer drop on the cliff face and grabbed onto a tree root. She realized there was no way to go but down so she let go of the root and fell a further 35 feet. Ouch!

Maybe Charles Reed Black did intend to pursue his wife to finish her off. Somehow he tripped or overbalanced and he fell off the cliff too. He wasn’t lucky enough to land on the rock ledge.

Lisa Black had seen her husband fall, and she made her way to where he’d landed.

When she found the injured hellbeast, Lisa Black asked him for his cellphone so she could call for help. He said he didn’t know where it was, and then he begged her to help him.

Lisa Black was badly injured from her fall but she somehow made her way down the mountain, found a road and flagged down a car. She gave rescuers directions to her husband’s location but it still took them 2-and-a-half hours to get to him.

Charles Reed Black and Lisa Black were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Both had suffered head injuries, broken ribs, bruises, lacerations and collapsed lungs.

Charles Reed Black owes his life to his ex-wife. She could’ve left him on the mountain to suffer a lingering death, and I for one wouldn’t have blamed her.

As it was, Lisa must be an incredibly strong woman to have made her way down that mountain and summoned help while her chest cavity was filling with blood and air. Kudos to her!

Both Lisa and Charles Reed Black were kept in hospital for 8 days. When he was released from the hospital, the would-be killer was arrested. He was charged with attempted murder, 2 count of elevated aggravated assault and 3 counts of aggravated assault.

When questioned by police, Charles Reed Black said he’d fainted, fell forward and somehow hit the back of his wife’s head with his own head. He had no memory after that, certainly not of pushing her off the cliff.

And those big old rocks he’d picked up? Well, he’d collected the 2 rocks with the idea that he and Lisa would toss them over the cliff as a symbol of getting rid of baggage and hoping for a new start to their marriage. Riiiight.

It took 3 years for the case to come to trial, and during those 3 years Charles Reed Black was free on bail. He moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.

In July 2014, Charles Reed Black, now 71, faced 6 charges in Knox County Superior Court. He pled not guilty. *shock*

The defense didn’t call a single witness, not even Charles Reed Black. Their strategy was to argue reasonable doubt — that the defendant had no reason to kill his wife, and that there was no physical evidence to back up the prosecution’s story.

“What you’ll have to conclude is that it just didn’t happen the way that Lisa Black said it did at all,” said defense attorney Walter McKee. Riiiight.

District Attorney Geoff Rushlau pointed out that Lisa’s blood was found at the top of the cliff, and on Charles Reed Black’s clothing and shoes. That was physical evidence right there.

And as for motive, I think the $4 million and the mistress provided plenty of that.

On July 21, 2014, the jury took all of 90 minutes to decide that Charles Reed Black was guilty of attempted murder, 2 counts of elevated aggravated assault and 3 counts of aggravated assault.

No date has been set yet for sentencing, but it should happen within a couple of months. I shall keep readers posted — reminders are, as always, very welcome.

Maine law allows for a sentence of up to 30 years for attempted murder. Charles Reed Black is 71 now, so he likely won’t see freedom again — unless the judge is very lenient. And it’s also likely his girlfriend won’t be around if and when he’s released — she’s about his age too.

I wish Lisa all the best. I wish her a life of comfort, safety, and happiness. Hopefully knowing her would-be killer is behind bars will allow her to live without fear.

And Charles Reed Black, that pathetic excuse for a man, I wish him to end his days in prison, with no comfort, no joy, no peace. He could have had so much, and it’s his own fault he winds up with so little.

UPDATE

Charles Reed Black was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 15 years suspended.

What a nasty individual, if i was the ex wife i would of left the cunt to rot away at the bottom of that cliff, lets hope the judge isn’t silly and thinks he should spend his twilight years a free man. Cleo hit the nail on the head, he could’ve had a comfortable life with the wife, but his greed and infidelity screwed him up, stupid twat he is.

I wonder if the girlfriend knew he was married. Shame on her if she did. I hope the old fart shrinks down into a shriveled old turd and dies in prison.

Anyone know if this was his first marriage? And what happened to his previous wife if there was one? I wish Lisa all the luck in the world. I would’ve left him to rot.

No it isn’t his first marriage, his 4th! I’m friends with two other wives. He’s a total serial cheater and has done it to all his wives.

There’s a cross there on top of that cliff in memory of a girl who fell off and died. I guess old Charlie figured it was already a proven killing ground and that’s why he chose it. Too bad he didn’t die in his fall. Hope he never gets out of prison.

Today Mark’s the Anniversary of the Execution of Rainey Bethea for
    Murder and Rape in 1936

    August 14th 1936

This was the last ( So Far ) Public Execution in the USA.

Perhaps if Public Execution’s were Restored prospective Murderers
could see what lays in store in them .

Either way it would Stop them from doing it Again
